Collection: 34th Infantry Division
The 34th Infantry Division, known as the "Red Bull" Division, is a historic unit of the U.S. Army National Guard. Established in 1917, it was the first National Guard division to serve in World War I. During World War II, the division played a pivotal role in the Mediterranean Theater, participating in six major campaigns across North Africa and Italy, including the battles of Anzio and Monte Cassino. Credited with 517 days of front-line combat—the most of any U.S. division in the war—the 34th suffered over 21,000 battle casualties and earned 3 Distinguished Unit Citations. Its soldiers received numerous awards, including 11 Medals of Honor and 15,000 Purple Hearts.
Today, the Red Bull Division is based in Rosemount, Minnesota, and oversees more than 23,000 soldiers across multiple states. It remains a key component of the U.S. Army National Guard, known for its readiness and capability to deploy rapidly in support of national defense objectives.
